Built in the 12th century Haut-Koenigsbourg castle was the residence of several eminent proprietors including members of the Habsburg dynasty and the German emperor Wilhelm II.
At the beginning of the 20th century the latter began extensive restoration and rebuilding work, bringing it back to its former glory as a medieval fortified castle, offering a magnificent view over the Alsace plain.
