The district of the Bastille is at the same time famous for its history, but also for its Opera.
The Column of July dominates Place de la Bastille. It marks the site of the prison of the Bastille which was taken by storm by crowd in 1789 at the beginning of the French revolution.
In the subway station, below the place, one can always see stones which constituted the foundations of the Bastille.
